STILL POPULAR & STILL WIDELY USED FOR ROAD CONSTRUCTION

For ages, hot mix asphalt was considered as the ‘pavement of choice’, used for building roads. It still remains widely popular and used, and a most ideal choice for road building purely for the fact that it offers excellent benefits in terms of costs, and energy savings. Further, it still makes it easy to build reliable and efficient road highways.

Most importantly, hot mix asphalt has shown that it is flexible enough to adjust and adapt to changing times. Despite periodic changes in its constitution and production nature, hot mix asphalt has proved its versatility to evolve. Modern hot mix asphalt offers a durable blacktop which is 100% recyclable and economical. It is this versatility that makes it ideal for being used in varied applications and designs, in line with project’s needs.

For generating hot mix asphalt, a Hot Mix plant is used.

WHAT’s HOT MIX PLANT?
A Hot Mix Plant is referred to as an assembly of mechanical and electronic equipments where aggregates get blended, heated, dried and mixed with binder to produce hot mix asphalt in specified requirements.

Available in stationery and portable categories, a Hot Mix Plant helps maintain ecological balance and assures the right quality of environment that helps avoid health hazards. While stationery hot mix plant stays installed at the site where it’s located, a portable or mobile hot mix plant is mounted on any carriage or trucks in which asphalts are mixed to get the right blend that is ideal for the construction and maintenance of roads and other such likes.

IMPORTANT SALIENT FEATURES

A Hot Mix Plant comes with a lot of salient features, but some are more important for they offer that extra benefits assuring aggregates of all sizes, like:

  • Dust collector, helps to maintain a pollution-free environment during operation.
  • Drums, two in numbers that facilitates drying and mixing of the asphalt.
  • Heated Tank that ensures liquid asphalt after being thoroughly dried and heated, get discharged directly into an insulated holding or surge-bin at the back of the hot mix plant.
  • Electric heating system which heats the asphalt, following which the finished item is dumped into a truck and transported to the site, ready for use for road construction.

HOW IT WORKS?

Using recycling technology at different mixing points to the mixers, a Hot Mix Plant stirs mixtures of sand, gravel, water and so on, following which the mixtures are screened, heated, and metered. Then the mixtures are evenly mixed with the original raw materials in the mixers to produce high-quality hot mix asphalt mixtures.

APPLICATIONS

Apart from being extensively used for road construction, a Hot Mix plant is also used for:

  • Patching of roads.
  • Construction of highways and runways for airports.
  • Light paving with hot-mix bituminous concrete.
  • Paving of recreational bike paths.
  • Paving of Tennis courts.
  • Driveways and asphalt parking lots.
